Where does the fear come from?

July 03, 2015 by Andrew Bayliss

While listening to my daughter reading last night, the story (A Thea Stilton, Thea Sisters book) was discussing setting up a blog. So I said to her that perhaps we could set up a blog for her and she could do the same thing.

“I can’t do that, my writing isn’t very good.”

She is nine years old and for some reason she already has in her head that she is no good and can't write. I asked why she thought that and got an "I dunno". I asked if someone had told her she was no good. "No". "So why do you think that?" Still nothing.

I explained that no one starts out perfect and then asked her if she knows how to get better at things. Here the 6 year old boy pops up with....

“I know, I know, you keep trying!”

Nice one. So I checked out the Terms & Conditions of tumblr, fully expecting to see the standard "must be 13 or older".  Sure enough, there under 3. Use of our services, Eligibility. Oh well, perhaps I can get her guest posting on here.

I wonder if it's too early to introduce her to Brené Brown and The Power of Vulnerability.
